Reproduction ~ Urethane ~ B-Grade

For tank lids, if the brand, model and color you need is not available as an original porcelain, there are choices for substitution. (Varies by model.) Substitutes may be a beneficial price on some items and are particularly helpful when originals are not available.

For bolt caps, some colors are produced in the urethane substitute when original plastic is not available.

Reproduction Tank lids: These lids are new from current production, vs. used and salvaged. The reproductions are much like enameled wood toilet seats. The core material is MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard.) The surface material is high-gloss, marine-grade polyurethane as described below. The design of these lids may differ compared to the original. But the shape, size, fit, and color are identical to originals. 
  • The top is generic-flat and does not have the same decoration, contours, radius, or details as an original.
  • The front and sides are plain and may not match original details.
  • The thickness may be less on some models.
  • Added benefit: The flat top provides additional storage space for tissue, candles and such.
  • On the product page, under "Select Material", choose "Reproduction Substitute" if available.

Warranty: One year against fading, peeling, cracking.  Not covered are chips, scratches, abrasions.

Urethane: Short for polyurethane. This is a marine-grade polyurethane surface which is applied when necessary to provide a product in a discontinued or out of stock color. Those products are original porcelain tank lids, reproduction tank lids, some toilet seats, and some bolt cover caps.

 Pros: The product is available in the matching color.

Compromise: The tone or reflection may not be identical, but most people don’t notice any difference.

Con: The urethane surface is slightly less durable than the original material.

Use & Care: Clean with soapy water only. Do not use abrasives or other chemicals.

Warranty: One year against flaking, cracking or peeling.  Conditions not covered are nicks, chips, scratches, or abrasions.

B-Grades: Reduced price. These are original porcelain, used and salvaged tank lids that have some minor flaw such as speck, nick, chip, crack, or abrasion. The location, size, and description of the flaw will be described. On the product page, under Select Condition, choose "B-Grade".
